The green you see is solid biological growth, which is forming because of lack of attic ventilation and excessive moisture. Both bath fans discharge into the attic, as well as the kitchen vent, and the basement is wet. Our recommendation for this homeowner was to remove the roof down to the rafters, improve the attic ventilation, rectify the basement water problem, and direct all vents to the exterior. Mold remediation to rafters may be needed.
